THE DIFFERENT APPEALS
In An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore uses a wide arrange of appeals to help make his audience feel as though it is their job to start making a difference.
ETHOS
The whole film is Al proving that this whole environmental crisis was caused by us, therefore the only ones who can clean up this mess is ourselves.
We tend to think of Al Gore as a leader due to the fact he was (as he says) "used to be the next president of the United States." He is a political and an environmental leader who is pretty credible. Everything he says in the documentary (besides his own views and opinions) has been backed up science and math.

LOGOS
Most of the film is statistical charts, graphs, and numbers. Everything makes sense and is quite logical. We are shown the normal statistics from 100 years ago compared to the last 10 years and we see what we have done. The numbers have proven it is time to make a change.
Pathos
The appeal that was most prominent in this video was pathos. I noticed this the most when he shows the animated video of a polar bear getting tired of swimming and looking for an ice berg to rest on. We then see the polar bear finally reach a small ice berg but it breaks and then the screen pans out to which we realize that polar bear is going to drown. This is pathos because we feel bad afterwards due to the fact we are polluting and creating global warming which is melting ice bergs.
He also uses pathos in different trailers and posters for the movie when he says: ‘If you love your planet, if you love your children, you have to see this film.’ This is Al Gore saying if you don't watch this movie then you must not love your kids. This makes us feel as though this movie will be as important as our children so we must have to see it. Not only does he say that but throughout the movie he also makes it very clear that this entire situation was 100% avoidable and this is all our fault.

"Not for the White House, but for the environment."
